Evangelical Christian School is excited to announce the hiring of Johnny Manetta as the new ECS Head Softball coach. Coach Manetta has coached softball at Fort Myers High School for the past 11 years where he won 8 district championships, 3 regional championships, and 2 state championships (2017, 2021).
ECS Athletic Director Scott Guttery says, “I have known Johnny for several years and he is, without a doubt, the best softball coach in SWFL. Our softball program has seen tremendous growth in the past 4 years and we are excited to have Johnny and his family joining the ECS community. We have some amazing coaches at ECS and Johnny will fit in well. He will push our players to compete at their highest level and give them an opportunity to play at the next level.”
ECS is coming off a 21-5 season which ended in a loss in the Regional Final to the eventual state champs St. Pete Canterbury. They were led by Elizabeth Sheldon and interim head coach Steve Magner, ECS’s head girls soccer coach. “Elizabeth Sheldon did an outstanding job building this softball program for the past 4 years. After she stepped away this year for personal reasons, Steve Magner did an outstanding job and we are very grateful for his willingness to step in and coach,” says ECS Athletic Director Scott Guttery.
This year’s ECS softball roster was made up of many underclassmen. Coach Manetta will have a talented group of hard working players to keep building the ECS softball program into one of the best in the state.
